The mission of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank is to lead a network of partners and unite the community to eliminate hunger by feeding, nourishing, and empowering those we serve.
Our hunger-relief network stretches across 20 counties in Southeast Tennessee and Northwest Georgia. We partner with nearly 200 organizations, churches, community centers, schools, senior centers, and other locations to deliver nutritious food directly into the hearts of communities. Last year, we provided enough groceries for 17 million meals, the most in our organization's 53-year history.
As a member food bank of Feeding America, we have strong relationships with major retailers and food manufacturers. We also source from regional grocery stores and local farmers, ensuring our neighbors have access to the highest quality foods. Groceries are distributed to hunger-relief partners, schools, churches, and mobile food pantries in communities across Chattanooga, Cleveland, Dalton, and more. We also operate Foxwood Food Center, our flagship food pantry in Chattanooga that's set up like a grocery store and encourages our guests to choose the food they receive. Foxwood is the largest food pantry in Hamilton County, serving over 4,000 households every month.
We purchase over 1/3 of all food sourced for distribution, and because of our relationships with national, regional, and local food suppliers, our purchasing power is incredibly strong. For every $2, we can provide groceries for 5 meals. That means a donation of just $20 can provide groceries for 50 meals.
