Chattanooga Room in the Inn: More Than Just A Shelter

Chattanooga Room in the Inn (CRITI) provides something different from a traditional emergency shelter. We are the only shelter in Hamilton County offering a six-month live-in program specifically designed for women and children experiencing homelessness, with wrap-around support built into their stay. Residents receive housing, case management, educational and employment support, life skills programming, child advocacy, and other resources designed to help them move toward stability and independence.

Our work extends beyond the initial six-month program. Through our four-year Aftercare program, graduates receive continued guidance and support as they work to maintain stable housing, strengthen their independence, and navigate the challenges of life after the residential program. We believe lasting stability takes time, and we remain connected with graduates as they continue building their futures.

CRITI also serves young people through our Unaccompanied Youth Program, supporting eligible students experiencing homelessness without a parent or guardian. Participants receive safe shelter, educational support, tutoring and mentorship, individualized case management, and life skills training to help them pursue their education and work toward a stable future.

Our CRITI Thrift Store in East Ridge plays an important role in this mission. Store revenue helps fund CRITI’s programs, while the store also provides a place for residents and graduates to access affordable items as they work toward greater stability. Community members can support the mission through shopping, donating gently used items, and volunteering at the store.

For 38 years, CRITI has worked alongside the Chattanooga community to help women, children, and young people move forward. Our programs are made possible through the generosity of individual donors, local businesses, community partners, volunteers, and thrift store supporters. Every contribution helps sustain the housing, resources, and relationships people need as they work toward a more stable future.
